Meet Washington Redskin Chris Cooley
Joey is a huge Redskins’ fan; he particularly enjoys watching tight end Chris Cooley play ball. When Joey learned that he would receive a wish from the Make-A-Wish Foundation® of the Mid-Atlantic, Inc., it did not take him long to decide his greatest wish. Joey wished for a day at Redskins’ Park where he could meet Chris Cooley. The Make-A-Wish Foundation® partnered with the Redskins to make this dream a reality for Joey.
Joey’s wish started when a stretch limousine met him and his family at their home and delivered them to the Dulles Hyatt. Upon their arrival at the hotel, the staff greeted them wearing Redskins’ jerseys with the Redskins’ theme song playing over the speaker system. Joey was excited already!
The family’s suite was outfitted with Redskins decorations, and there was even a special Redskins section at the pool reserved for them. At dinner, the menu featured ‘Joey’s Lasagna’ as the special. The next morning, a limousine took the family to Redskins’ Park where Joey would meet Chris Cooley. Joey was given a Chris Cooley jersey, which Chris personally signed. Even more exciting, Chris took time to hang out with his little fan and toss around the football. Joey asked Chris if he was a SpongeBob fan and then the two headed for the field. Chris introduced Joey to his fellow teammates and they ran a few plays. At one point, Joey told Jason Campbell to “go long, no even longer” for a pass. Joey and Chris posed for pictures and just had fun together. After practice, the players took time to sign Joey’s commemorative football and take pictures.
As a special treat, Joey and his dad attended a Redskins home game soon after the wish. Joey wore a smile the entire time. Thanks to Chris Cooley and his fellow Redskins players, Joey’s special wish turned out to be a magical experience that he will never forget.
