Michele's Trip to Cannes
Age 15
Travel to Cannes to View her Film
Not your ordinary 15-year-old, Michele has struggled with both learning disabilities and a life-threatening medical condition. However, she hasn’t let either hold her back. Unable to read until she was 10 years old, Michele has since written for The New York Times and regularly writes for JVibe Magazine.
She recently completed her first short film, “L’Chaim Israel,” which she submitted to Cannes International Film Festival in hopes that it would be selected. The four-minute film celebrates the 60th anniversary of Israel through interviews with local Holocaust survivors, including Michele’s grandfather, and has already won awards at Jewish film festivals in the United States.
Upon hearing that her film would be included in the lineup of the Short Film Corner at the prestigious Cannes festival, she was ecstatic and knew what her greatest wish would be. Michele, through the Make-A-Wish Foundation®, traveled with her family to Cannes, France to experience the Festival and witness her film’s screening.
As Michele told the Gazette, “ever since I was very little, I’ve loved Hollywood, I’ve loved flashing lights, I’ve loved the whole scenario of film festivals.” The family enjoyed “a lifetime of memories and career building for Michele,” said her mother. From meeting celebrities, viewing films — including her own — and learning about the filmmaking industry, Michele’s trip was a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Very energetic and always ready to tackle the next challenge, Michele has already begun work on her next film: “Freedom."
