Make-A-Wish® Special Events Ranging from golf tournaments and scavenger hunts to triathlons and road races, signature events are hosted annually by the Make-A-Wish Foundation® of the Mid-Atlantic. By engaging the community, these events enable our Foundation to raise support and awareness to help fulfill the wishes of local children and enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy.
11th Annual Race for Wishes Sunday, April 18, 2010 | Buckley's Tavern | Centreville, DE The Race for Wishes features a scenic route through the countryside of Delaware and offers both a 5K and 10K course. Few races can claim such picturesque routes and such a wonderful cause. Both races start and end at Buckley's Tavern and feature a fabulous post-race party on the deck. 20th Annual Make-A-Wish Kids' Triathlon Sunday, May 2, 2010 | Martin Luther King Jr. Park | Silver Spring, MD The Make-A-Wish Kids' Triathlon is a fun event open to children ages 5 through 16. Kids ages 5-8 will participate in a biathlon (run, bike, run), and participants ages 9 and older will compete in a triathlon (swim, bike, run). The event also includes a festive post-race picnic and awards ceremony, complete with a disc jockey, clowns, face-painting, games and more. Click here to learn more and register.
15th Annual Make-A-Wish Golf Classic Wednesday, May 19, 2010 | White Clay Creek Country Club | Wilmington, DE In its 15th year, the Make-A-Wish Golf Classic in Wilmington, Delaware delights its participants again and again. Held at White Clay Creek Country Club, the eighteen-hole, scramble format tournament tees off at noon and wraps up with a wonderful cocktail and hors d’oeuvres reception. Featuring three supervised stream restorations and wildlife habitat preservation areas, White Clay Creek Country Club offers golfers eighteen holes of picturesque and challenging golf. Make-A-Wish Baltimore Kids' Triathlon Sunday, May 23, 2010 | Padonia Park Club | Cockeysville, MD Join the Make-A-Wish Foundation for the Baltimore Kids' Triathlon, a fun event open to children ages 5 through 14. All participants will compete in a triathlon (swim, bike, run) with varying distances based on age. 27th Annual Make-A-Wish Triathlon at Sea Colony Saturday, September 25, 2010 | Sea Colony Resort | Bethany Beach, DE The Make-A-Wish Triathlon at Sea Colony is an exciting 1.5K ocean swim, 41K bike and 10K run for up to 1,000 athletes. Athletes can compete as an individual or a member of a relay team. This event will again be the Delaware Qualifier for the Best Of The US competition this year. Click here to learn more and register!

Community Fundraising Events The Make-A-Wish Foundation of the Mid-Atlantic benefits from fundraising events and partnerships with local businesses coordinated by members of our community. These fundraisers, independently organized on our behalf, raise awareness of our mission and bring the community together to support children's wishes. We encourage friends of the Foundation to support these events and campaigns, or take the initiative to host your own! Kisses for Wishes Hershey's Kiss Sales* February-March 2010 | Potomac, MD For her bat mitzvah project, middle school student Allison Nadler is selling Hershey's Kisses to her neighbors to earn funds for granting wishes. Young Professionals Ball of DC March 6 | The Washington Historical Society | 801 K Street NW | Washington, DC The first ever Young Professionals Ball of DC will bring together the district’s philanthropic community for a night of fun and fundraising at the Washington Historical Society. At minimum, 50 percent of all $35 ticket sales and raffle items will be donated to the Foundation. Potomac Pizza Community Night* March 10 | Gaithersburg, MD Amanda Goldman, organizing a fundraiser in celebration of her bat mitzvah, has teamed up with Potomac Pizza to earn funds for Make-A-Wish. From 4:00 – 9:00 p.m. on March 10, 20% of proceeds from dine-in and carry out orders at the Kentland’s Market Square location in Gaithersburg will go to the Foundation. "Fashion Meets Philanthropy" March 13 | Ellicott City, MD Please come out to support this year's Fashion Meets Philanthropy event on Saturday, March 13th at 7:30 PM, at Centennial High School, 4300 Centennial Lane, Ellicott City, MD. Fashion Meets Philanthropy is a local charity runway show event organized and run completely by students. All proceeds benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation of the Mid-Atlantic. The show features local high school students as models, and several professional designers have contributed their designs to our runway. In addition to the exciting runway show, there will be a live DJ and a jewelry auction featuring beautiful handmade jewelry made by student Kelsey Abernathy. Tickets will be $10 at the door.
